Perho cheese dairy is a small artisan cheese factory in the heart of Töölö, Perho.
The cheeses are made from organic milk and matured in Perho’s own wine cellar, where they become good friends with the wines. Today, the “cheese master” is Olli Takanen, whose insights have given rise to Perho Juustola’s delicious cheeses.
The story of Perho cheese dairy began in 2018, when trainer Olli Takanen and food production lecturer Jarkko Ahvenainen became interested in blue cheese production. Since the beginning, they have had the courage and daring to experiment with making different cheeses.
Where can you buy cheese?
You can buy our cheeses at Restaurant Perho, Perho puoti. The shop is open during restaurant opening hours. Welcome to visit us!
Cheese can also be bought at the Hakaniemi store, Lentävä Lehmä and Stockmann Herkku.
Let’s design a unique cheese for your restaurant together
Do you want a cheese in your restaurant that you can’t get anywhere else. Together, we can design and make the cheese that’s right for you.
The customisation options are as follows:
- Choose the type of cheese and the raw materials – in addition to milk, we can combine different acid carriers and several moulds or combinations of moulds for cottage cheeses.
- Decide on the ripening time and place – cheeses can be ripened in our facilities or in your restaurant.
- We will deliver the cheeses to you pre-packed for ripening, so that they can be optimally ripened on your premises.
And best of all – your restaurant staff are always welcome to get involved in the cheese making process. This way you can offer customers the story behind the cheese, not just the taste.
Juustopöytä ry has awarded the 2025 Kultainen juustohöylä to Perho cheese dairy
Since 2010, the prize has been awarded annually to an operator in the cheese sector who has made a significant contribution to the promotion of Finnish cheese culture. Perhon Juustola receives the Cheese of the Year award
The Finnish Cheese Manufacturers’ Association has awarded Perhon Juustola with the Cheese of the Year award at the Jyväskylä Cheese Fair on 23-24 November 2024.The association justifies its choice as follows: “The Cheese of the Year award is focused on cheese made from Finnish milk and improves its competitiveness in some way.”
Perhon Rehtori blue cheese has won acclaim at the World Cheese Awards
Perho cheese dairy in Helsinki has been selected as one of the winners of the World Cheese Awards. The 2023 competition took place in Trondheim Spektrum, Norway on Friday 27 October. Perhon Juustola’s blue cheese, Perhon Rehtori, won gold in the world’s most prestigious cheese competition.
The award-winning Perhon Rehtori is made from pasteurised organic cow’s milk, matured for 5 months and made entirely by hand. The cheese has a nutty, mildly natural and aromatic flavour.
35. 4 502 cheeses from 43 countries entered the World Cheese Awards. Perho was the only Finnish cheese dairy in the 2023 competition. More than 5000 cheeses from 46 countries took part in the 37th World Cheese Awards.
Perho cheese dairy in Helsinki has been selected as one of the winners of the World Cheese Awards for the second time. The 2025 competition took place in Bern, Switzerland on 13 November. Perho cheese dairys blue cheese, Perhon Rehtori, has won gold and silve in the world’s most prestigious cheese competition.
