Perho Brewery

Helsinkis oldest microbrewery

Perho Brewery since 1995

Perhon Brewery is the oldest operating microbrewery in Helsinki, which operates as an educational brewery. Beers are brewed not only by beer makers, but also by our student chefs and waiters.

The brewery was founded in 1995. Our first beer was Perhon Rohkea (Amber ale), which is still in our range. In addition to that, we also experiment boldly with different recipes. Seasonal beers are naturally part of our selection.

Come and taste our beers at Restaurant Perho (Mechelininkatu 7, 00100 Helsinki).

Restaurant Butterfly has four of its own brewery’s products on tap. Restaurant Perho also has a Perho Shop, where you can buy our bottled beer to go.

Perhon Rohkea

Rohkea IPA

Style: India Pale Ale
ABV: 6.8%

Based on Rohkea Amber Ale but more bitter, this beer pays tribute to English brewing traditions. Balanced maltiness, bold bitterness, and fruity yeast character combined with strong hopping create a beer that quenches even the biggest thirst.

Malts: Maris Otter, Munich, Torrefied Wheat, Caramel 100
Hops: Northern Brewer, Centennial
Yeast: Safale S-04

Viekas

Style: Saison
ABV: 6.9%

Our saison honors Belgian brewing traditions. Slightly herbal, fruity, and pleasantly spicy in the finish, this farmhouse ale is crowned with a higher ABV. Quite the trickster!

Malts: Pilsner, Vienna, Wheat
Hops: Northern Brewer, East Kent Goldings, Saaz
Yeast: Lallemand Belle Saison
Other: Coriander seed, orange peel

Altmeister

Style: Altbier
ABV: 4.7%

The city of Düsseldorf in Germany has a strong Altbier culture. In fact, if you order “a beer” in Düsseldorf, you will most likely be served an Altbier. Perhon Altmeister is a malty, dark amber, top-fermented beer with balanced hopping. Its flavor reveals subtle notes of chocolate and a long, traditional finish.

Malts: Pilsner, Vienna, Munich, Chocolate
Hops: Northern Brewer, Spalt Select
Yeast: Safale K-97

Valtava

Style: Bohemian Pilsner
ABV: 5.5%

Valtava is a smooth and full-bodied pilsner with a golden color, firm malt backbone, crisp bite, and long finish. Noble Saaz hops and grainy malt aromas crown a beer that combines the finest qualities of Czech lager tradition. Fresh, balanced, Valtava.

Malts: Pilsner, Munich, Carapils, Melanoidin
Hops: Magnum, Saaz
Yeast: Mangrove Jack’s M84 Bohemian Lager

Runsas

Style: Baltic Porter
ABV: 7.2%

Runsas Porter is a dark, bottom-fermented beer that has been cold-conditioned. Unlike many porters, Runsas features very little roasted character, instead offering rich chocolate notes and flavors of dried fruit. The cold maturation process harmonizes and rounds the flavors, allowing the warming alcohol to emerge pleasantly.

Malts: Vienna, Munich, Caramel 600, Chocolate, Black
Hops: Magnum, Tettnanger
Yeast: SafLager W34/70

Valpas

Style: Hefeweizen
ABV: 5.2%

Malts: Wheat, Pilsner, Munich, Caramel Pale
Hops: Perle
Yeast: Lallemand Munich Classic

Bière pour le Fromage

Style: Farmhouse Ale
ABV: 6.6%

Bière pour le Fromage is designed to be enjoyed with Perho cheeses. This fresh, slightly tart beer with spicy aromas offers an excellent counterbalance to the rich flavors of cheese. Dry hopping with Nelson Sauvin and secondary fermentation with Brettanomyces Bruxellensis yeast create a distinctive character that is also delightful on its own.

Malts: Pilsner, Wheat, Oat Flakes
Hops: Most, Nelson Sauvin
Yeast: Safale BE-256, Brettanomyces Bruxellensis

Uljas

Style: Helles Lager
ABV: 5.5%

Uljas is a Munich-style pale lager. A crisp first bite combined with easy drinkability and light hopping with domestic varieties results in a beer that works for every moment and occasion. Cheers!

Hops: Suntti, Hulla Norrgård
Yeast: SafLager W34/70

Seasonal beers

We produce small batches of seasonal beers, with flavours to suit the season and to showcase different hop varieties and beer styles.
Our seasonal beers are served at Restaurant Perho, but can also be purchased for consumption in 30 litre kegs.
Many of our standard beers have been created as seasonal beers and, in response to customer requests, we have introduced continuous production.
